Arisdelsi (Ari) Cervantes (she, her), MSW, LCSW

I believe that effective therapy starts with developing a genuine, trusting, and supportive therapeutic relationship. I utilize a person-centered approach in therapy, meeting each client where they are at in the therapeutic process and in life in general. I strive to create a warm, empathic, and unconditionally supportive environment that makes clients feel safe, comfortable, and open to share and work through any of life’s challenges — together. Deciding to begin therapy is a big and courageous step, and I understand that it can be scary and unfamiliar! You have already taken this difficult step recognizing there are things you wish to change or improve. I view therapy as an avenue to help you identify and effectively utilize existing and new strengths and skills in order to enhance your sense of self, create healthy changes, and promote overall growth.
In my previous work and internships, I have largely integrated techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Strengths-Based perspective. However, understanding and honoring each client’s individual needs is crucial to the therapeutic process. As such, I also incorporate techniques from other theories and approaches, including Solution-Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness, Relaxation Techniques, Supportive Reflection, and Family Therapy, to support each client in achieving their individual goals. As a therapist, my goal is to help clients gain greater insight, understanding, and skills to improve their overall well-being and create a more balanced life.

Clinical Areas of Interest/Training

I have clinical experience working with Depression, Anxiety, Mood Disorders, ADHD, PTSD, Trauma, Grief and Loss, Interpersonal and Relational Struggles, Adjustment/Life Transition Issues, Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, Dementia, Codependency, Family Conflict, Shame and Guilt Issues, Self-Esteem Issues, Crisis Intervention, Suicidal Ideations and Attempts, Self-Harm Behaviors, Eating Disorders, Bullying, and Substance Use.
I have worked in community mental health agencies providing individual and group counseling and case management services to individuals of various ages and diverse backgrounds and experiences. Most recently, I worked in a nursing home providing services to both short-term and long-term care patients and their families. I enjoy working with adolescents, individuals, and groups. I have an interest in working with couples and families.

Education

I earned my Master’s Degree in Social Work with a specialization in Mental Health and a sub-specialization in Migration Studies from Loyola University Chicago. While earning my degree, I completed internships with two community-based mental health agencies in Chicago where I was able to provide individual, family, and group therapy to youth, adults, and families living with a variety of issues, including depression, anxiety, ADHD, trauma, grief and loss issues, suicidal ideation, self-harm behaviors, and substance use.
